Angela Chan is a British East Asian musician, producer and composer based in the North of England. She is a member of Mercury Prize shortlisted band Lanterns on the Lake, cinematic folk sextet Tomorrow We Sail and electro-psych rock collective Hello Cosmos.
Classically-trained, Angela has gone from orchestral ensembles to amplified strings and effects pedals. She performs mainly on viola and keys, sometimes the violin, and backing vocals. Angela writes and releases with her projects as well as collaborating with other artists to provide arrangements for live and studio. She is a touring member of alt rock group Placebo and Scottish singer-songwriter Kyle Falconer (The View). In 2019, Angela debuted her solo project Ameiyi supporting Korean avant-rock band Jambinai.
Away from the stage, Angela produces and composes music for film and television, most recently, a commission of incidental music for BT Sport's Champions League coverage with Lanterns on the Lake members. She composes for theatre as well as sound design including work on PAINT (2015) and From Shore to Shore (2017). Entering the world of technology, Angela composed and produced the soundtrack for digital sensory experience The Conductor (2019) and is working with Interplay to further develop the audio for release.
In 2018 Angela set up a private studio in Leeds to do remote recordings and music production including orchestrations, string arrangements, and programming, for creative and commercial projects.
